Created in 2001, the Indian Land Tenure Foundation’s primary aim is to ensure that all reservation and important off-reservation lands are owned and managed by tribes and Indian people. The Foundation is governed by an 11-member board representing Indian land owners, tribal representatives and those committed to Indian land issues. As a community foundation with a national scope, the Indian Land Tenure Foundation (ILTF) works directly with Indian Nations and Indian organizations to fulfill our mission that “land within the original boundaries of every reservation and other areas of high significance where tribes retain aboriginal interest are in Indian ownership and management.” ILTF strives to create lasting change by transforming attitudes and systems through our grantmaking and program initiatives. We have created an integrated strategic approach that focuses on education, cultural preservation, economic development and legal reform to work toward meaningful and lasting solutions.
