Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
Our company has been in business for over 15 years. Our current owners took over about 3 years ago and have upgraded and improved our software and our products to make them even better.
What is your primary product or service?
Perfekt helps the subcontractor get paid for their work by helping them perfekt lien rights by following the correct procedure and timeline according to Minnesota lien law.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
My background is project management as a petroleum engineer in the field working with subcontractors and suppliers of all kinds. I left the oil field and became a builder, licensed in MN, with a MN real estate license. I found that while my best subs were skilled at their trade, they needed some help in standard business practices. I understand the industry, the building process, and the business needs of our typical client.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
You will see some changes coming soon. We will be introducing a name change from Lien Guaranty to Perfekt, Inc. You will see an improved website and on-line service order form. You will see better billing and tracking of prepaid pre-lien usage. You will see better reporting tools and access to those tool (no longer the hard to read report that comes in your monthly billing). What you don’t see behind the scenes is that we are now scanning our documents and electronically storing them off-site in a secured facility. What you won’t see (coming to fruition two weeks from now) is that our new data base and processing software will enable our operations to be more streamlined and efficient. We are fully staffed and cross-trained.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
We are currently working out of our office in Hastings, MN. We are doing work in Minnesota and Wisconsin. As we feel that there is a need to understand the lien laws of each state and have legal counsel to support us and answer our questions in the construction legal field, we will concentrate here for now and look at other states as we grow.
What type of payments do you accept?
We accept Mastercard and Visa as payment. Our clients are also allowed to pay by check. We will also accept cash if that works best for our clients.
Which areas do you service?
We are not legal counsel, but we do paperwork for the contractors and subs that will be filed at the county. There are timelines to be followed and certain ways to serve notice by mail. We do this type of paperwork. It is only related to the construction and supply business, not tax liens or legal battles.
What are your hours of operation?
We are open Monday thru Friday from 9am to 5pm. Though it seems construction has slower seasons, we are open year round to help service those in need.
